Racing for the ocean.
Because we love it.
Indigo Life is a nonprofit built on a simple conviction — people protect what they love. Everything we do starts there.
Sigrid · on the water · always
The ocean never stops. Even now, somewhere, a wave is crashing. It has always crashed. That constancy — that refusal to quit — is the first thing I ever loved about it.
I grew up in Mexico City, far from any coast. But my family would take us to the ocean as often as they could, and I would sit and listen to the waves for hours. There was something in that sound that felt like a promise. Like the world was bigger than anything I could worry about.
Then my parents gave me sailing. And sailing changes you forever. There is no sport like it — you are not on the water, you are with it. With the wind, the current, the weather, the silence and the fury. We sailed as a family, and those are some of the most alive moments of my life.
The ocean gives us life.— Sigrid Beckmann, Founder of Indigo Life
Now it needs our love.
I never imagined back then, that I would one day be fighting to protect it. Slowly, I started to notice. You hear stories. You read the news. And then you see it with your own eyes — beaches I remembered covered in seashells and little conchs, now covered in cigarette butts, plastic caps, bottles, fishing nets. The ocean waves were still crashing. The tides kept coming and going, but something had broken.
I have 3 children. They sail at world-class level and love the ocean deeply. Perhaps that is exactly why I could not look away — you don’t fight for something abstract. You fight for something you love.
So I stopped sitting in fear and that was when Indigo Life was born. Not because I had a grand plan, but because I had a great love, and I could not do nothing and look away.
People protect what they love. You cannot save something you have never truly seen. You cannot fight for something you have no connection to. That conviction is at the heart of everything Indigo Life does.
Three kids. One ocean. A lifetime of love.
