Windward.
In sailing, windward is the direction the wind comes from — the harder course, the one that demands more. It’s the direction we choose. Always.
A nonprofit built on the belief that the ocean can be saved.
Indigo Life is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2017. We are a mixed team from different countries and backgrounds — all committed to making a difference. Our focus is education and building alliances to protect our oceans and our planet.
We don’t believe in working alone. We believe in critical mass — in bringing people, foundations, businesses, organizations and industries together because that is the only way to create change at the speed the ocean needs.
We are short on time. That’s not a reason for despair. It’s a reason to move.
A three-point strategy for real change.
Every challenge Indigo Life takes on comes back to three questions. How do we approach it? What do we do to reverse the damage? How do we stop it from continuing? The answers shape everything we do.
Education
The base of all change is education. We educate, share, show, exchange, learn, transform and grow — because changing people’s mindset is the first and most powerful act of conservation. Environmental education is set to become the largest, most effective tool in combating environmental damage and stopping the pollution of our seas.
Restoration
We cannot only slow the damage — we must reverse it. Indigo Life supports and implements programs that restore the health of our oceans and our planet. From Blue Carbon projects to vital ecosystem protection, we are committed to making the most impact where it matters most.
Transformation
We must change the fundamental way we do things. Businesses can continue to grow — in production and in profit — while doing it in a circular, regenerative way. Indigo Life promotes circular economy initiatives that don’t ask people to do less, but to do things differently.
Our objectives are as clear as the horizon.
These are not just goals — they are commitments. To the ocean, to the next generation, and to everyone who believes that what we do today determines what tomorrow looks like.
Advance ocean literacy — building the scientific understanding and emotional connection to the sea that turns people into lifelong advocates and protectors.
Align with the United Nations Agenda 2030 and its Sustainable Development Goals — particularly SDG 14 Life Below Water, SDG 13 Climate Action, SDG 4 Quality Education, and SDG 17 Partnerships for the Goals — as the global framework guiding our programs and impact.
Educate the next generation for the challenges and opportunities of restoring our oceans to a healthy state — through sustainable practices and new ways to reduce plastic impact.
Recognize and empower role models who stand out not only as athletes, students and artists — but as guardians of our oceans.
Advance peer-to-peer education programs that amplify outreach and create educational opportunities at scale.
Ignite a spark, gain momentum and achieve the critical mass needed to make the urgent changes our oceans demand.
Reduce our plastic footprint in communities, schools, sports, businesses and homes — because every space is a place to start.
Promote circular economy — because sustainability and growth are not opposites. They are the same direction.
Build strategic alliances. The key to fighting climate change and plastic pollution is working together — with people, foundations, businesses and industries — to have bigger impact in less time.
